Who We Are

The Future Builders, 2009: (clockwise from the left) Emma Silen, Dylan Kimsey-Hutchinson, Zeke Nierenberg, Adam Becker, Eli Draizen, Ruth Teresko, Jeremy Smith-Danford, Andrew Miller, Olivia Laurel, Shannon Miller. Not Pictured: Luke Bowyer. Unfortunately Zeke, Adam, and Jeremey are longer in Future Builders
No, but seriously. This is Future Builders: We regularly hold benefit concerts and other fundraisers for environmental and humanitarian organizations worldwide. Frankly, we don't expect to be able to change the whole planet, but we know for sure that we can change ourselves, and our friends. By bringing the Bay Area's young community together through local music while raising awareness and funds for important issues, we hope to spark small shifts in consciousness that will make a huge difference later. Because right here is where it all begins.
Where we began:
The founding group was inspired by a summer at Wavy Gravy's Camp Winnarainbow. On the night before returning home, the eldest campers headed out into the golden fields of Laytonville to walk a labyrinth together. As the sand crunched beneath their feet and the velvet sky enveloped them in vast potential, they were urged to contemplate how they would bring Camp's joy and inspiration out into the rest of the world.
Future Builders was the beginning of an answer to this summons. Camp had taught us that we would never help anyone unless it made a difference to us, too. Combining compassion with a passion for music, Future Builders strives to connect people, minds, and ears in our global community.
Our team is made up of 9th to 12th grade teens. We're always looking for more people to join the cause. We're currently holding meetings every two weeks to a month. If you want to know when the next meeting is, just contact us.
