Raceday Your guide to today's FedEx 400
A big thank you to Jeff Gordon for clearly pointing out the ridiculousness of the idea NASCAR drivers need to call rivals and clear up any bad feelings after each dust-up. It's particularly silly for a sport which promotes drivers to "have at it" to have its media members pepper those involved with questions asking if the situation is resolved. If driver feuds are good for the sport - as most contend - then why the effort to quash them? As Gordon said, "They're calling me so I don't wreck them the next week. They're not calling me because they really believe that we should have a conversation."It seems by now most NASCAR tracks would have installed lights, but not because every track should host night races. Every track should have lights so in the event of inclement weather NASCAR has every option to get the race in on the day advertised. Night races remain popular for the fans who attend them. However it also remains clear NASCAR likely would do better in regards to TV ratings if some Saturday night races were on Sunday afternoons.
Heavy rain washed out Cup qualifying Saturday, the first time this season Cup qualifying has been canceled.
Under the new rules this season, five-time reigning series champion Jimmie Johnson will start today's race from the pole based on having the fastest speed during Friday's two practices.
A.J. Allmendinger will start second, Dale Earnhardt Jr. third, Kasey Kahne fourth and Joey Logano fifth. Points leader Carl Edwards will line up 13th.
"I'm looking forward to another great weekend, and I would love to hopefully get a win and get some more points. I'd love to be leading the points right now," Johnson said.
"We've been stuck in second here for a few weeks. (Carl Edwards) pulled out a little bit on us last weekend. I'd love to close that up and fight for that top spot."
NASCAR, in partnership with the Armed Forces Foundation, has started a "Troops to the Track" program to recognize and host members of the Armed Forces at NASCAR races.
The program will provide more than 100 wounded service members, or service members in jobs particularly emotional and physically demanding, an opportunity to enjoy a VIP-style NASCAR race day experience.
For the second consecutive year, UPS will help fund NASCAR's Wendell Scott Scholarship Program, which provides annual scholarships administered by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities and the United Negro College Fund.
Today's News: Our Take - General Hospital's Laura Wright Finally ...
Wright: The one where Carly says goodbye to Michael when he went to prison. I was really nervous about it and second-guessing myself because Carly was so vulnerable in those scenes. I didn't want to be the weeping, blubbering actress looking for an Emmy. Plus, Chad Duell had just taken over the role of Michael. It was his first or second day. I was saying goodbye to a kid I'd just met.
TV Guide Magazine: So what's it gonna be like sitting in Vegas as a nominee? hair and makeup room a lot. "Don't complain about the Daytime Emmys if you're not going to show up to vote!" It's a bummer and a shame when people don't care. If you're going to walk up on that stage and accept your Emmy, then you should put in the time like the rest of us. One year I even got Maurice Benard [Sonny] to vote! That was back when we still had to show up at a hotel and vote in groups, before they started sending out the DVDs so you can watch at home. It was my first year at GH Wright: Oh, I don't think so. Brenda thanked Carly for what she did, and Carly just sort of blew it off. Then Carly is going to ask for Brenda's help, and Brenda doesn't want to give it. So much for making nice! Actually, it's worse. When Carly ran off to find Brenda's kid, Jax took their daughter, Josslyn, and won't give her back, so there has been a huge repercussion in helping Brenda.
